Saigneville & the Bay of Somme
▶ The Bay of Somme, a Grand Site of France
Labelled as a Grand Site de France and Regional Natural Park since 2020, the Bay of Somme is the largest estuary in northern France, with its 7,200 hectares of preserved nature.
Here, the landscapes change with every tide. Seals bask on the sandbanks, migratory birds stop over by the thousands, and the light – so unique – has inspired generations of painters and photographers.
What awaits you:
Romantic stroll along the quays of Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme
Crossing the bay on foot at low tide with a nature guide
Seal and bird watching
Kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding on the Somme
Land sailing on the beaches of Fort-Mahon
Henson horse rides
Cycling along the towpath or the Vélomaritime
Discovery by Tuk-Tuk

▶ Saigneville, our village
Saigneville is a small Picard village halfway between the city (Abbeville, 11 km away) and the sea (Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme, 9 km away). An ideal location for exploring the entire Bay.
The village has a history that dates back to the Middle Ages, to the time when the sea still came crashing against the cliffs. It is up there, thirty meters above sea level, that our Presbytery stands. Below, salt marshes were once exploited according to the tides.
Things to discover in Saigneville:
The 13th-century Saint-Fuscien church and its listed bell
The Blanquetaque ford, a historic site from the Hundred Years' War
The Three Springs trail, at the foot of the cliff
Petit-Port, along the Somme
